What is the Mental Capacity Act?

The Mental Capacity Act 2005 is an essential piece of legislation for people living with dementia as its aim is to ensure that their best interests are upheld and protected.

Course Aim:

This workshop, run by Sara Wilcox who founded the charity Pathways Through Dementia, will give attendees an overview of the Act alongside real life situations where she has used the principles of the code of practice to assist people who are either planning ahead (for example, using forms such as Lasting Powers of Attorney), and/or acting as an advocate for someone with dementia who has lost mental capacity.

Sara previously worked at the Court of Protection and now runs a legal helpline which receives over 350 enquiries a year on a range of legal and financial issues.
