Aims of the LPA masterclass
During this 3 hour masterclass, with Sara Wilcox from Pathways Through Dementia, Sara will provide attendees with both types of Lasting Powers of Attorney: Finance&Property and Health&Care. She will go through the forms page by page highlighting common mistakes people make when completing them, and taking questions from the group, outlining the principles of the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and describing the benefits of setting up Lasting Powers of Attorney (LPA).

The session aims to explain the key legislation that is relevant to people living with dementia following diagnosis. Using an interactive approach, Sara will cover many frequently asked questions about LPAs and draw on her experience to describe situations where LPAs have made a positive difference to families facing life-changing situations.

Sara Wilcox established Pathways Through Dementia as a charity in 2013, having worked previously on the legal helpline at the Alzheimer’s Society and at the Court of Protection.
Sara has been affected by dementia in her family having witnessed her mother give up work to care for her mother with memory loss. Sara is passionate about helping families navigate their way through the complexities of the dementia journey.

Pathways Through Dementia is dedicated to providing the public with information on legal and financial issues pertinent to living with dementia and caring for a person with dementa. Unravelling the legalities of living with dementia and family caring can be perpexing. Pathways Through Dementia helps people with questions around paying for care, managing finances, welfare benefits and many other issues.

According to the Carers Trust report 'A Road Less Rocky' (2015) 55% of dementia carers feel that they are not given enough information on legal and financial issues when dementia is first diagnosed.

Pathways Through Dementia is working hard to change this.
