Course Outline
This course will be delivered by 'Playlist for Life' in partnership with 'Dementia Pathfinders Community Interest Company' with the aim of raising awareness of the life-enhancing benefits of music and personal playlists for people living with dementia and their families.
The course will equip participants with knowledge about dementia and how music has the power to engage people with dementia in a meaningful way, even when their language is limited and other aspects of cognition severely impaired.
Participants will learn how to be a 'Music Detective', developing the skills required to create personalised playlists for people with dementia and those with other life-limiting conditions.
The potential of technology will also be explored, enabling people with dementia to access music easily, using preferred devices.

Who should attend?
Health & care professionals, community workers, volunteers, family carers, people living with dementia, people and organisations keen to support this work ..... indeed, anyone with an interest in extending the reach of personal playlists for people living with dementia and their families is welcome to attend.

What will I learn?
By the end of the day’s course participants will:

  • Have learned and practised ‘Music Detective’ skills to find the right music for an individual
  • Explore different ways of playing the music
  • Have started to think about potential links with care homes, community organisations and venues
